Taiwan detects more than a hundred Chinese fighter jets in the vicinity of the island

The Taiwanese Ministry of Defense announced this Monday the detection of 103 Chinese Army fighters in the vicinity of the island, which represents a large increase compared to the rest of the missions carried out by Chinese forces.

"A total of 103 departures have been detected flying over the sea, which represented a large recent increase and has caused serious consequences for the security of the Taiwan Strait and the region. A serious challenge," the ministry published on its website. .

In this sense, the authorities have pointed out that peace and stability in the area are closely related to the security, prosperity and well-being of the Indo-Pacific region.

"The continuation of military harassment by the communist Army can easily lead to a sharp increase in tension and worsen regional security. We call on the authorities in Beijing to assume their responsibility and immediately put an end to such destructive unilateral actions," added the ministry.

The escalation of tensions in the region began with the trip to the island of the then president of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, in August of last year. The situation worsened after the visit of the president of Taiwan, Tsai Ing Wen, to the North American country, where she met with several American congressmen despite warnings from Beijing.

Taiwan has had an independent government since 1949, but China considers the territory under its sovereignty. The fundamental policy of the Chinese Government towards Taiwan has until now been that of peaceful reunification under the "one country, two systems" principle.
