The new contract contemplates the renovation and modernization of the current waste treatment facilities with the aim of increasing the recovery of recyclable materials and therefore reducing the amount of waste deposited in landfills.

Madrid, April 18, 2024.- GESPESA (Management and Exploitation of Servicios Públicos Extremeños, S.A.U.) has once again awarded FCC Medio Ambiente the contract for the operation, maintenance and conservation of the facilities assigned to Management Area number 4 of Badajoz for the transportation and treatment of non-hazardous domestic and commercial waste. FCC Medio Ambiente has been providing this service to GESPESA since 2005, serving a population of approximately 243,000 inhabitants in 36 municipalities of the province, such as Badajoz, Jerez de los Caballeros and Olivenza. The portfolio of the new contract for the 15 years of duration is more than 100 million euros. The facilities annually manage around 110,000 tons of waste from the Rest, Bulky and Light Packaging fractions and have a staff of 65 people. This new contract seeks the total renovation and modernization of the Ecopark facilities and their conditioning for the treatment of the Separate Organic Collection Fraction (FORS). The entire fleet of vehicles and mobile machinery will also be renewed. As a sign of the commitment of GESPESA and FCC Medio Ambiente to promoting self-consumption and the use of energy from renewable sources in all their facilities, the degassing network of the controlled deposit of rejects from the Ecopark for the production of electrical energy from biogas, and photovoltaic solar panels will be installed on the roof of the warehouses. The management of the Badajoz Ecopark also includes the operation of the Clean Point located there, the Station transfer of Jerez de los Caballeros and the Mother Trucks of the Valencia areas of Alcántara and Alburquerque. The contract contemplates an investment of 56.6 million euros for the renovation and modernization of the facilities, which is expected to be completed in 18 months . In this investment, among other actions, the construction of two new mechanical treatment lines is considered, one for the FORS and another for the automatic selection and classification of recyclable materials shared for the Rest and Light Packaging fractions; a new manufacturing line for Solid Recovered Fuel (CSR) from non-recyclable materials for energy use in cement plants; and new modules for the differentiated biological treatment of organic matter from the Resto and FORS fractions.About FCC Medio Ambiente FCC Medio Ambiente is the company that structures the environmental services of the FCC Group.
