Spain surpasses the Netherlands and is one step away from its tenth European Championship

MADRID, 19 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Spanish women's rugby team beat the Netherlands (70-0) this Sunday in Sitges (Barcelona), a victory that leaves the 'Leonas' one game away, next Saturday against Sweden, from winning their tenth Championship of Europe.

Juan González's team took just over a minute to achieve the first of their twelve tries in the match, when Clara Piquero landed the ball close to the right sideline. Less than ten minutes later, Claudia Peña, in a great personal move, tried centering for the subsequent transformation and set the score at 12-0.

The Dutch never managed to get close to the zone of 22 of the Spanish, who extended their lead at 17 minutes (17-0). Four new trials by the 'Leonas' sent the duel sentenced to rest (41-0).

Three more trials in 20 minutes, plus another two later, completed the bulky score in Sitges (70-0). "I am very happy with the level shown. We have taken steps forward in our performance," said Juan González after the match.

Next Saturday at 5:00 p.m., in La Vila, Spain will play against Sweden -which already lost to the Netherlands 38-12 in the duel between the two- and if they win they will seal their tenth European Championship, the seventh in a row for the 'Leonas' '.
