MADRID, 7 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -
The Ministry of the Interior issued a statement this Saturday in which it hopes that the efforts of the National Center for Missing Persons (CNDES), summarized in its strategic plan on missing persons 2022-24, serve as a model for the creation of a European Center for Missing Persons.
In this sense, the ministry has announced that on October 25 and 26 it will host an event on 'Guide to good practices for missing persons' in Madrid, within the framework of the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU). in which the member states of the Union will share experiences with the ultimate objective of progressing in the implementation of the future European center.
The intention is for this future center to serve as a meeting point for states to share best practices, optimizing their collective capacity to respond quickly and efficiently to the myriad of challenges surrounding the management of these cases.
The proposal for a European center is based on the 2021 Slovenian EU Council conclusions on intensifying cross-border police cooperation in this area, while the Spanish initiative is aligned with the Common European Approach on Missing Persons and Children Missing Persons 2021 from the AMBER Alert Europe Foundation and PEN-MP, the Network of Police Experts on Missing Persons.
The president of AMBER Alert Europe, Frank Hoen, has expressed his support for the Spanish initiative, arguing that its "proactive approach and the hard work of the CNDES in this regard are a great step forward. We praise the drive of the Spanish Presidency to address this problem and start talks on the creation of a European Center for Missing Persons.
Likewise, Hoen has considered that "the high number of missing people and the profound impact on their families make this center crucial. We hope that this will ultimately lead to a center for coordination, knowledge, training, research, technology and best practices ".
