Sánchez opens the door to a reform of the LeCrim so that Junts vote in favor of the amnesty

MADRID, 5 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has opened the door to making a modification to the Criminal Procedure Law (LeCrim) as part of the negotiation to convince Junts to vote in favor of the Amnesty Law, which will benefit those involved in the independence process.

When questioned about a reform of this rule with the aim of shortening the judges' instructions in time, Sánchez stated that in recent weeks there have been "instructions that are prolonged" in reference to the latest judicial decisions that could put in danger that some pro-independence leaders such as the former Catalan president, Carles Puigdemont, could benefit from the amnesty.

"I think there are elements that we can incorporate for improvement and that can correct some of the doubts that these political formations may have," he said in an interview in La Sexta, reported by Europa Press.

He also considers that this possible reform "fits perfectly" into the Justice Efficiency Law that was validated a few weeks ago in the Congress of Deputies.

When questioned again on this matter, that is to say that he intends not to touch the text of the amnesty but rather a reform that affects the judicial investigation, Sánchez stated: "We are going to talk to the parliamentary groups to see exactly what margins we have of improve a law that, I insist, is brave, is restorative and, above all, is constitutional."
