Sánchez offers the independence movement an agreement on financing, Catalan and the regional Treasury, but without a referendum

He believes that if the negotiation were limited to a consultation on independence, it would not meet his expectations.

BARCELONA, 21 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, offered this Thursday to the Catalan independence movement an agreement to reinforce regional financing, self-government and also on the use of Catalan. Furthermore, he has opened the door to the development of an autonomous Treasury, pointing out that it is a possibility included in the Statute of Autonomy.

On the contrary, he has insisted on rejecting a self-determination referendum and considers that if the negotiation were limited to this extent, his expectations and his obligation to citizens would not be met.

This was stated in an appearance this Thursday at the Palau e la Generalitat in Barcelona, after holding a meeting of an hour and a quarter with the Catalan president, Pere Aragonès, the first meeting of both leaders after the re-election of Sánchez as president. , in part thanks to the votes of ERC.

Sánchez has insisted on his rejection of the referendum, but has advocated "moving forward on an agreement" during the next four years of the legislature to reinforce the self-government of Catalonia, within the Magna Carta. Furthermore, he considers that there is "total" will on both sides.

"In that framework, within the Constitution, we will be able to talk about many things," he said. "Without a doubt about reinforcing regional financing in Catalonia, reinforcing self-government in Catalonia and talking about all those things that define Catalan society, for example, in the area of language," she indicated.

Furthermore, when asked if he would be willing to carry out the development of an autonomous Treasury for Catalonia in exchange for the separatism giving up holding an independence referendum, Sánchez stressed that the Tax Agency "is something that is in the Statute of "Catalan" autonomy that is yet to be developed, as he specified. "It's a different question how it materializes," he added.

In any case, Sánchez has highlighted the "institutional normality" that in his opinion now exists between the Government of Spain and the Generalitat of Catalonia, as well as the cooperation, collaboration and will shared by both governments and the respective parties that support them.

In this way they intend to "leave behind a time of discord, confrontation and confrontation" and give themselves an opportunity for "reunion" and overcoming the "political conflict", according to the President of the Government. Sánchez considers that the will is "total" on the part of both administrations and assures that they will work for the next four years to reach that agreement.

In an interview this Thursday, Sánchez rejected the referendum and assured that it is an "unconstitutional" measure and after meeting with Aragonès he delved into this idea by pointing out that "there is no Constitution in the world that accepts the segregation of a part of his country ". "There isn't one, not even in Spain," he stressed.

Secondly, he has shown himself in favor of achieving "transversal" agreements that represent a majority of a society that is "plural" and therefore offer "an agreement and not a dispute, a confrontation, a discord" as in his opinion. It happened from 2010 until he arrived at La Moncloa in 2018.

"From both a political and material point of view, we are going to work for coexistence and for politics to do its job and for us to achieve an agreement that represents a vast majority of Catalan society, which, I insist, is plural," he reiterated. .

Along the same lines, he has indicated that if the negotiation remained "simply" defending a "yes or no" to a referendum, they would not have met their expectations, they would not have done their homework or fulfilled their obligation to the citizens.
