Sánchez avoids the word amnesty but speaks of generosity in Catalonia, although he rejects the referendum

MADRID, 3 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The acting president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has avoided making a direct reference to the amnesty so that Carles Puigdemont supports his investiture, although he has defended the need for "generosity" and doing politics in Catalonia, while at the same time he has stressed his rejection to a self-determination referendum as demanded by the Catalan independentists.

"Doing politics implies generosity, it implies commitment to your country and logically it implies leadership," Sánchez said at a press conference after receiving the task from King Felipe VI to try to form a government, avoiding at all times uttering the word amnesty.

Regarding the demand of ERC and Junts that a self-determination referendum be also included in the framework of the pact to support the investiture of the socialist leader, Sánchez has expressed his rejection "not only due to commitment and constitutional demand but also due to a political conviction."
