Silvia Navarro breaks her cruciate and meniscus and leaves the European Championship

MADRID, 6 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Spanish handball international Silvia Navarro suffers a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and the internal meniscus of her left knee, an injury that occurred in the debut of the 'Guerreras' in the European against Montenegro, and leaves the concentration, has confirmed this Sunday the Royal Spanish Handball Federation (RFEBM).

"The worst forecasts regarding Silvia Navarro's injury are confirmed. The captain of the Spanish team underwent an MRI this Sunday morning, which confirmed the rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and the internal meniscus of his left knee," reported the federal body.

The 43-year-old Valencian goalkeeper was injured in a game during the final stretch of the first part of the match against Montenegro, corresponding to the first day of the tournament and in which José Ignacio Prades's team gave up their first defeat ( 30-23).

In this way, the goalkeeper will leave the concentration of the 'Guerreras' in Podgorica (Montenegro) and will return to her home "in the next few hours", according to the RFEBM.

In addition, according to the federative entity, the coaching staff of the Spanish team has decided "for the moment" not to make any addition to the call to replace the loss of Silvia Navarro, having Maddi Aalla and Mercedes Castellanos.

"From the Royal Spanish Handball Federation we wish a speedy recovery to the player and captain of the Spanish team, and we send her all the strength in the world to enjoy her again very soon," said the RFEBM.
