The Russian authorities have announced on Monday the withdrawal of the anti-terrorist operation regime in the capital, Moscow, and the region of the same name after the end of the crisis unleashed on Saturday with the rebellion of the Wagner Group, led by the oligarch Yevgeni Prigozhin.

"The head of the Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the city of Moscow and the Moscow region has decided to cancel the legal regime of anti-terrorist operation on the territory of Moscow and the Moscow region from 9.00 a.m. (local time) on June 26, 2023", indicates a note published by the agency.

Likewise, it has stressed that the decision has been adopted "in the absence of threats to life, health, property and other legally protected interests of the population", as reported by the Russian newspaper 'Izvestia'.

The measure was imposed on Saturday before the riot led by Prigozhin, after which the mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobianin, announced that Monday's day would be considered a holiday and asked the population to avoid displacements as much as possible due to the "difficult" situation.

Hours after the start of the rebellion and before the advance of the units of the Wagner Group towards Moscow, the Kremlin announced an agreement that implies that Prigozhin will go to Belarus, as well as the withdrawal of treason charges against him and guarantees not to indict Prigozhin. members of the mercenary group for their actions.

Thus, the Russian Presidency also highlighted the mediation exercised by the Belarusian president, Alexander Lukashenko, and stressed that he and Prigozhin have known each other for about 20 years. Lukashenko himself and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a "long, frank, warm and very constructive" conversation that facilitated the final agreement, according to Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Peskov.

For his part, Prigozhin ordered the members of the group to abandon the positions taken during their advance, including their withdrawal from the center of the city of Rostov-on-Don, in order to reduce tensions, derived from their fight against the leadership. of the Ministry of Defense and the Russian Army in the framework of the invasion of Ukraine, unleashed in February 2022 by order of Putin.
