Police search the offices of the European People's Party in Brussels

BRUSSELS, 4 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) -

The Belgian federal police searched the offices of the European People's Party (EPP) in Brussels on Tuesday in relation to a corruption investigation initiated in Germany, sources from the political formation itself have reported.

The European party "is cooperating with total transparency" with the authorities involved and offering all the information and documentation required, as indicated by the PPE in a statement released after the records were known and warned that it will not make any further comments.

Both Belgian police officers and police officers displaced from the German state of Thuringia have intervened in the investigations and, according to 'popular' sources consulted by Europa Press, they point to the CDU leader in this region, Mario Voigt.

The same sources have warned that Voigt does not hold any position in the European People's Party but he did assume the tasks of the online electoral campaign of the formation in the 2019 European Parliament elections, elections led by the current president of the EPP, who is also German Manfred Weber.
