Podemos will present 28M candidacies in almost 19% of Spanish municipalities, the majority in coalition with IU

IU has a similar number of solo and joint charts. The two forces launch more candidacies than in 2019

MADRID, 23 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Podemos will present around 1,500 candidacies for the 28M municipal elections, the majority in coalition with the IU and also with other left-wing parties (1,300) but they will also have local solitary lists.

In this way, the purple party will concur in almost 19 percent of the 8,131 municipalities that are called to the polls at the end of next month. Precisely this Monday the deadline for presenting the lists of candidacies closes.

The purples, who according to party sources present more lists than in the 2019 elections, have established alliances mainly with IU and Alianza Verde, but also to a lesser extent with Verdes Equo and even Más País, where they go together in some municipalities.

For its part, IU confirms that pending the correction of the technical aspects and the final proclamation of the candidacies, it will be presented in more than 1,500 municipalities. In about 1,040 it will appear on lists shared with other organizations, most of them with Podemos, while in another 500 localities it competes alone for 28M.

Sources from the formation emphasize that they present more candidacies compared to 2019, when both alone and in coalition more than 1,300 lists and stress that they are the space called to participate in Sumar with the greatest municipal implantation, as they already revealed in the elections last year. four years.

The two main forces of the current confederal space are going together to these elections in ten autonomous communities, while in Aragon and Asturias they will compete in these elections.

In this way, the agreements between Podemos and IU are sealed for the autonomous communities, as well as in the bulk of the territorial area, in the Valencian Community, Madrid, Murcia, the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, Navarra, Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha, Cantabria and La Rioja. .

The leaderships of both parties have congratulated themselves on this volume of confluence, given that more coalition agreements have been reached than ever and have made clear their desire for unity.

In turn, they have also forged pacts in regions where there are no regional elections but there are municipal ones such as Catalonia (under the umbrella of the 'commons'), and Euskadi (also for the elections in the councils) which also includes Alianza Verde and Equo .

In this way, the joint candidacies of both formations are the general trend in large municipalities and are united in 39 provincial capitals.

For example, in Castilla y León (six provincial capitals), Andalusia (five) and Galicia, the agreement is majority at the municipal level. However, Podemos and IU will compete electorally in cities such as Cádiz, Granada, Zaragoza, Oviedo, Granada, Jaén, Soria, Ferrol or Zamora.

Meanwhile, in some municipal squares the confluence is broader and even includes Más País, the formation led by Íñigo Errejón, as is the case in Ciudad Real, Córdoba, Málaga or Seville (within alliances with more formations), but not in alliances at the regional level where Podemos is present.
