Paula Badosa also falls at its premiere in Dubai

MADRID, 19 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa has said goodbye in her debut in the Dubai tournament, in the WTA 1,000 category and played on hard courts, after losing in the first round this Sunday against the Russian Liudmila Samsonova (6-7 (3), 7- 6(5), 6-4).

The Catalan, resident in the emirate and number 20 in the world, was unable to defend the advantage achieved in the solid first set, which she won in the 'tie-break' despite enjoying up to four break balls to take the set with 5-4.

However, Samsonova -finalist in Abu Dhabi- managed to balance the contest by prevailing in the sudden death of the second set, in which a couple of breaks were exchanged. Already in the final set, Badosa gave up his serve in the first game and, although he reacted with a 'counterbreak', he again suffered another tear that was lethal, before the game closed after three hours and 24 minutes of play.

In this way, the Spanish bid farewell to the Middle East tour - she was unable to participate in Abu Dhabi due to illness and fell at her premiere in Doha - before facing Indian Wells, where she reached the semifinals last year.
