Participation in Ecuador reaches 60 percent by mid-afternoon

MADRID, 20 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Participation in the Ecuadorian elections reached 60.7 percent at 3:00 p.m. local time (10:00 p.m. in Spain) according to data published by the country's National Electoral Council.

The preliminary results would be known from 7:30 p.m. local time (02:30 a.m. on Monday in Spain), according to the CNE, in the midst of quiet elections in the country but affected by complaints abroad due to the difficulty of depositing the ballot.

The CNE, however, has rejected several complaints that have appeared in the last few hours, particularly the one presented by one of the big favorites for victory, Luisa González, about problems in voting abroad for the presidential elections this Sunday.

Minutes before, the Revolución Ciudadana party led by González had assured that the system implemented by the CNE for telematic voting by Ecuadorians residing abroad had "serious deficiencies."

"They must guarantee the will of Ecuadorians expressed at the polls. We demand immediate solutions," the candidate has made known from the X network, formerly Twitter.

On the contrary, and also on social networks, the CNE has indicated that electronic voting abroad "is carried out normally" and has reminded voters abroad of the digital registration procedure that they must complete before casting their vote.

"Due to the high demand for voters, we urge compatriots to be patient while the information is processed," the Council has made known in its X account.
