OCHA celebrates the passage of 33 trucks with supplies to Gaza, the largest delivery since the reopening of the Rafah crossing

The body requests a much larger volume that includes fuel

MADRID, 30 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has celebrated the passage of 33 trucks this Sunday loaded with water, food and medical supplies towards the Gaza Strip, the largest delivery since the reopening of the Rafah crossing on the 21st. October.

"On October 29, at least 33 trucks carrying water, food and medical supplies entered Gaza through the Rafah crossing with Egypt. This was the largest delivery of humanitarian aid since October 21, when deliveries resumed. limited", the organization has reported on its website.

However, he assured that a "much greater volume" is needed to avoid the deterioration of a "terrible" humanitarian situation", showing concern about civil unrest.

It should be remembered that the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, reported this Sunday that thousands of people have broken into its warehouses and distribution centers in the center and south of the Gaza Strip to obtain flour and basic elements of survival in what the organization already considers as the beginning of the breakdown of "civic order" in the enclave after days of total siege by Israel.

This is why OCHA has also requested the urgent entry of fuel, necessary to allow the operation of both medical equipment in hospitals and water and sanitation facilities.

For its part, the World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that medical supplies "are dangerously scarce" and that the lack of fuel "is already affecting the operation of health facilities and ambulances," according to a published statement. on his social network account X, formerly Twitter.

Furthermore, the WHO has denounced that, since the beginning of the bombings on October 7, the Israeli Army has damaged numerous health facilities, which are "filled with seriously injured patients."

"Hospitals in the north continue to receive evacuation orders. The WHO reiterates that the evacuation of hospitals is impossible without endangering the lives of patients," the organization has published.

In this sense, he has insisted on the need for active protection of civilians and to provide them with medical care, to revoke evacuation orders and to allow access to humanitarian supplies.

The International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) has joined this call, which has been "deeply alarmed" by the evacuation orders received by the Palestine Red Crescent (MLRP) teams in Al Quds hospital.

"Hospitals are places of help and refuge; they must be protected at all costs. The PRCS Al Quds Hospital in Gaza City cares for hundreds of wounded and long-term bedridden patients. Evacuate patients, including who are in intensive care, with assisted breathing and babies in incubators, is almost impossible in the current situation," reads a statement from the organization.

The NGO has also denounced the "violent attacks and bombings" near the hospital, which "put the population in even greater danger", and recalled that they are protected by International Humanitarian Law.

"We are deeply concerned for the safety of patients, healthcare staff and the thousands of people who have taken refuge at Al Quds Hospital. Healthcare staff should never be faced with the impossible dilemma of leaving patients behind or risking their lives. remaining in the hospital," lamented the FIRC.

Thus, he has urged the Israeli authorities to protect civilians, hospitals and health personnel not only as a "moral obligation", but as a "legal imperative."

The Israeli Army has constantly bombed the enclave, controlled by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), since September 7, killing more than 8,000 civilians, including more than 3,000 children. The Gaza Strip is also under complete siege by the Israeli authorities, so they lack basic survival goods, such as food, water, fuel or electricity.
