Norwegian carried more than 1.5 million passengers in March, 60% more

MADRID, 11 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Norwegian airline transported more than 1.5 million passengers during the month of March, which represents an increase of 60% compared to the same month of 2022, with an average occupancy of 81%, as reported by the airline on Tuesday in a release.

On a year-on-year basis (twelve months from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023), Norwegian carried a total of 19.4 million passengers, 137% more than in the same period of the previous year, with an occupancy 83.5% (nine percentage points more).

The airline has highlighted that the first month of spring marks the return of summer time with a "considerable" increase in capacity and a "strong" boost in reservations, "well above" the levels observed at this time of year past.

Likewise, Norwegian has explained that it hopes to welcome an increasing number of passengers on board during the summer months of 2023.

Capacity (measured in ASK, the total number of seats offered by an aircraft per kilometer flown) was 2,347 million seats per kilometer in March, while actual passenger traffic (measured in PKT, total number of passengers transported in one aircraft per kilometer flown) was 1,903 million seats per kilometer.

In March, Norwegian operated an average of 67 aircraft and completed 99.2% of scheduled flights. Punctuality, measured by the number of flights leaving within 15 minutes of the scheduled time, was 81% in March.

POSITIVE SUMMER OUTLOOK

The CEO of the airline, Geir Karlsen, has highlighted that Norwegian is heading towards the summer season with a "positive outlook", since the reservation data is "significantly higher" compared to the same point in 2022, which , in his opinion, indicates a "continuous and strong" demand for air travel, specifically, to coastal destinations.

With an expanded route network, Norwegian also continues to recruit new cabin crew and take delivery of new, fuel-efficient aircraft. With the summer 2023 season, Norwegian will take delivery of a total of 11 fuel-efficient Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

With this year's summer schedule, Norwegian will offer more than 300 routes to 114 destinations, including several new destinations.
