Nicolás Redondo rejects that Puigdemont is the "arbitrator of Spanish politics" and advocates "any" PP-PSOE agreement

MADRID, 26 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The former leader of the PSOE in Euskadi Nicolás Redondo Terreros has rejected that the former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont, who fled in Belgium, becomes the "arbitrator of Spanish politics" after the results of 23J, at the same time that he has opted for a agreement between PP and PSOE so that governability does not depend "on a fugitive from Justice".

"There is no solid democracy that is respected if any government relies on a parliamentary group led from a foreign country," he added this Wednesday during his speech at an event organized by the 'Fernando de los Ríos' collective to analyze the electoral results of the 23J together with the former socialist deputy Pedro Bofill and the professor of sociology Juan Antonio Díaz.

In this context, he considers that the two big parties have to "agree", but not only "to govern, but for the great challenges": "They already had the ability to agree in the past."

For this reason, he has advocated "renouncing the most intimate interests" of the two large groups and focusing on the interests of the Spanish, because for him any negotiation with a person "fled from justice" is "impossible".

He believes that if the PSOE resorts to Puigdemont, the conclusion that the public will draw is that "anything goes" and if this were to happen we would be in a kind of "Iberian exception".

The former leader of the Basque PSOE believes that "there would be no justification" to go to an electoral repetition with the possibilities that exist and asks the left to stop to "meditate and reflect", to "look at the future and the complexity of all that other than agreeing with the PP". "I don't know why it seems unheard of to reach an agreement with the PP but not to reach an agreement with Otegi", he criticized.

Despite everything, during his speech he took the opportunity to congratulate the PSOE for "beating expectations" with a "magnificent result", since he considers that against adversity, the socialist leader Pedro Sánchez, has come out "strengthened" and therefore He has reminded him that he has an "extraordinary opportunity to live up to what Spain requires".
