Moreno invites the Commissioner for the Environment to "find out on the ground" the irrigated land around Doñana

It affirms that the proposed irrigation Law is open to "amendments and modifications"

SEVILLA, 19 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has publicly invited the European Commissioner for the Environment, Virginijus Sinkevicius, to "find out on the ground" what "is happening" in Doñana and the situation of farmers with irrigation.

In an interview with Onda Cero, collected by Europa Press, Moreno has shown his willingness to hold a meeting with the European commissioner to clarify all the information regarding the proposed law on irrigation in the northern crown of Doñana that is being processed in the Parlament. He added that he could also visit the area and talk to the farmers about the serious problem of lack of water.

Juanma Moreno has also indicated that he has sent a letter to the Third Vice President of the Government and Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, proposing a meeting to address the aforementioned bill, on which the National Executive is dedicating to launch "lies" and "hoaxes", with a total "lack of rigor and seriousness". She has asked the minister if she only dedicates herself to talking about Doñana and not, for example, about the "Tablas de Daimiel" in Ciudad Real, which are also going through a situation of drought.

"I am tired of lies," said Juanma Moreno, who has attributed this attitude of the Pedro Sánchez government to "desperation in the electoral field." "They really want me and they have found a minimal opportunity to open a crack based on lies," said Juanma Moreno.

He has insisted that it is "false" that with this bill new wells are going to be allowed to extract water from the subsoil: "Doñana is going to protect itself; it would not do anything that could harm Doñana." It is only a question, as he has explained, of giving a situation of regularity to certain lands for cultivation and then "it will be seen how they are going to be able to irrigate". The solution, as he has stressed, is through surface water with a transfer of the Tinto-Odiel-Piedras that the central government has to undertake.

He has indicated that before giving regularity to any land, the files will be analyzed one by one and he has calculated that in the end it will not be 700 hectares, but less.

Juanma Moreno has indicated that the bill that is being processed in Parliament is open to "amendments and modification" so that in the end there is a "reasonable, sensible and viable" rule. "I am open to suggestions and proposals, but not to maximalist suggestions", indicated the president.

He has regretted that the central government is dedicated to launching "hoaxes and inadmissible insults" and, above all, that it questions the reputation of the province of Huelva and its strawberry and red fruit farmers.

After insisting that the bill does not imply an "amnesty" for anyone, he pointed out that farmers know perfectly well that they cannot irrigate with groundwater and that all open disciplinary proceedings are going to be processed. With the initiative, As he added, it is allowed that certain lands "have ownership for that agricultural use", but the water for irrigation "has to be superficial".

Juanma Moreno has recognized that he has not given much thought to whether raising this bill at this time "was electorally good or bad." "It is a law that has no electoral motivation, neither for nor against; it only seeks the solution to a problem," she pointed out.

He has predicted that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will visit again and take some "photos" in Las Marismillas, when what he should do are the works for the transfer that guarantees water to farmers.
