More than 423,000 Palestinians displaced by Israel's bombing of the Gaza Strip rise to more than 423,000.

MADRID, 13 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The number of Palestinians displaced in the Gaza Strip due to Israeli bombing following the offensive launched on Saturday by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) from the enclave has risen to more than 423,000, as reported by the United Nations.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has specified in its latest balance that 423,378 people have been displaced, of which two thirds are in schools of the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees in the East. Next (UNRWA).

"Massive displacements continue. In the Gaza Strip, the cumulative number of internally displaced people has grown by 25 percent in the last 24 hours," the agency said, noting that there have also been displacements in southern Israel, mainly in the border towns with the Palestinian enclave.

Humanitarian agencies are continually working to "support the most vulnerable," despite "these difficult conditions." The main operation involves hosting and caring for internally displaced people in UNRWA schools and supporting those housed in other facilities. They are also distributing food aid and fuel.

"Humanitarian agencies and staff are facing significant constraints in providing humanitarian assistance. Remaining insecurity prevents safe access to people in need and essential facilities, such as warehouses," the agency added.

Israel, which has imposed a total siege on the Strip, has so far confirmed more than 1,300 deaths and 3,700 injuries since the start of the Hamas offensive, launched on Saturday and backed by Islamic Jihad, while 1,500 Palestinians have died and some 6,600 have been injured as a result of Israeli bombings and attacks against Gaza, in addition to more than 30 deaths and 650 injuries in operations and clashes with Israeli forces in the West Bank.
