Marc Márquez: "When you fall without understanding why, the Honda subtracts you"

BARCELONA, Nov. 16 (EUROPA PRESS) -

MotoGP rider Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda Team) acknowledged that the Honda "adds" in some aspects but also "subtracts" when, for example, crashes occur without knowing the exact reason, and on the other hand he assured that he was better from his injury and motivated for the 2023 World Cup, where he expects a better motorcycle and that they take "two steps forward" compared to 2022.

"The Honda gives you, but when you fall two or three times without understanding why, then it takes away from you. But I always try to get the most out of what I have, even if it gives me a fifth," he said in a talk on the podcast 'En la Honda' collected by Europa Press.

For Márquez, the Honda of recent times is a difficult and demanding motorcycle to ride. That is why he expects to see clear improvements for the next World Cup. "The tests (postseason, in Cheste) went well, but you always want more. There have been small developments, but two more steps have to be taken to have something with incentive and foundation to fight for the title, which is where we want to go" , he asked.

"We have suffered a bit with the engine, especially on circuits like Malaysia. There are problems with the front end, the way of braking to stop with less time and risk, and then corner exit. I think if we improve corner entry , it will improve the output", he pointed out about possible improvements to be made.

On a personal level, on his shoulder and arm, he acknowledged that winter will help him understand "what is one hundred percent current" of that previously injured arm. "One arm that's been operated on four times is not going to be 100 percent the same as the other," she said.

"I still notice discomfort, the overload comes before and the races in a row cost me. But it is what you have to recover on the bike; you throw what you have", he recalled.

For this reason, he does not hide the fact that his driving style changed during the recovery from the injury and various operations he underwent. "You could see that it was totally different, everything was more controlled. It got where it went. It was a very fine style but it came seventh, ninth... It didn't go any further. There was limitation of the arm. This last World Cup, in the end, I was able to fight for podiums and there was progress, which is what is important," he added.

As for his new partner, former MotoGP champion Joan Mir, and the arrival of Álex Rins at LCR Honda, both from Suzuki, he welcomes both signings. "They are both going to adapt. They both have talent. Both Mir and Rins are fast and there were curves that they did like me or even faster. They will be two fast drivers and strong scoring partners," he warned.

"A new teammate is coming, I have had many like Pedrosa, Lorenzo or Pol Espargaró, all champions, and now another world champion is coming. We all have to row in the same direction to qualify for the top positions", he commented, specifically, about Joan Mir, new member of the Repsol Honda Team.
