María Jesús Montero assures that the PSOE will not approve any measure that "commodifies" women

MADRID, 30 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, has assured this Thursday that her formation will not approve, or share, "in any case" any measure "that commercializes and makes policies regarding women and equality unworthy".

Asked about the PSOE's position on surrogacy, at the press conference to present the budget execution data corresponding to the 2022 financial year, she explained that the Socialists are "against surrogacy" and that this is how "she takes it in their electoral program" and they have "expressed it throughout all this time in which it has been topical at some point".

In her opinion, "it is only enough to look at how this situation behaves in countries that are regulated", including "those that do not allow economic consideration", where, as she explained, "poor women are the ones who make their body so that a couple or a person can have a child". "And therefore we are not going in any way to approve or share any measure that commodifies and makes policies regarding women and equality unworthy," she pointed out.

Montero has indicated that it is "a question of dignity" and has defended that "women have a different role to play in society that is not to be surrogates for anyone and fundamentally not to have to use this circumstance to to be able to have an income that allows them to have a fairly decent life".

On the other hand, the minister has "regretted" that the PP has opened up to regulating this practice, and believes that in this stage of Feijóo's leadership, the party, "far from approaching moderate policies" is "radicalizing its political positions ". "It has radicalized them due to the abstention that it experienced in the motion of no confidence and therefore it continues to give wings to the extreme right of this country in the formation of the government and with an abstention that cannot be explained in the face of the contrary vote that was experienced in the previous motion of censure", he stated.
