In the second investiture debate of the legislature, the PP candidate obtains the necessary votes to be sworn in as president

CARTAGENA (MURCIA), 7 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The deputy of the PP Fernando López Miras has obtained the necessary support to be sworn in as president. He has achieved it in the second investiture debate thanks to the pact reached 'in extremis' between PP and VOX to avoid electoral repetition.

Thus, López Miras has obtained 30 favorable votes, thus exceeding the majority necessary to be sworn in as president on the first ballot (quantified at 23 votes), thanks to the support of the 21 PP deputies and the 9 VOX deputies.

It is worth remembering that last July a first investiture debate was held in which the PP candidate did not obtain the necessary support to be sworn in as president in either the first or second vote. During all this time, VOX has conditioned its support for the PP leader to enter the Community Government, something it achieved on September 1.

The agreement between the two political formations contemplates the entry of VOX into the regional government with two ministries, that of Development and that of Security, Interior and Emergencies, the latter, with the rank of vice presidency.

In addition, on Tuesday, September 5, PP and VOX sealed the agreement with the signing of a government program that includes 30 measures, among which it is contemplated to advance in the protection of the Mar Menor, the elimination of direct subsidies for unions, eradicate violence against women, as well as guaranteeing free Education from 0 to 3 years in public centers, the reduction of taxes such as the general ITP tax rate or the reduction of personal income tax in the middle and low salary brackets, among other measures.

López Miras thus faces his third legislature as president of the Community. The PP deputy came to the Government in April 2017 after the resignation of Pedro Antonio Sánchez. In that year he managed to be sworn in as president in the second vote with the abstention of Ciudadanos.

In 2019, López Miras repeated as regional president, this time he managed to be sworn in as president thanks to a government pact with Ciudadanos and with foreign support from VOX.

During said legislature, López Miras had to face a motion of censure from Ciudadanos and PSOE, which failed to succeed, after the irregular vaccination of senior officials of the Ministry of Health. He faces this third legislature with the support of VOX, the party with which he will govern.

López Miras is the seventh president of the Autonomous Community of Murcia and the fourth of the Popular Party. As head of the regional Executive, he has been preceded by the socialists Andrés Hernández Ros, Carlos Collado Mena and María Antonia Martínez, and the 'popular' Ramón Luis Valcárcel, Alberto Garre and Pedro Antonio Sánchez.
