The journalist, writer and television presenter José María Carrascal died this Friday at the age of 92, as reported by the newspaper 'ABC', a medium in which he was currently publishing an opinion column.

The communicator developed his extensive professional career in radio, press and television. Born in El Vellón (Madrid), Carrascal began to stand out in journalism as a correspondent in New York, where he performed this function as an informant for the newspapers 'Pueblo' and 'ABC', in addition to RTVE and Antena 3 Radio.

It was in 1989 when Antena 3, as soon as it began its broadcasts as the first private television in Spain, hired him to direct and present the 'News at eight' and, later, the 'News at night' in the early morning slot. where his particular style and the color of his ties conquered the most nocturnal viewers. In 1997, Carrascal himself announced on the air that he was stopping presenting the news program by decision of the network.

After his television adventure, the journalist focused on the written press, with opinion columns in 'La Razón' and 'ABC'. In the Vocento newspaper he wrote his last article on October 31, dedicated to Princess Leonor's swearing-in of the Constitution.

As a writer, Carrascal published more than twenty books, among which the novel 'Groovy' stands out, for which he won the Nadal prize in 1972. He also wrote other political and historical works, such as 'The agony of felipism' (1995). , 'Frank. 25 years later' (1999), 'The Aznar era' (2000) or 'The history of Spain that they did not tell us' (2015).

Among his awards, in 2021 he received the Luca de Tena Award for his extensive professional career, the Antena de Oro for television and the Mariano de Cavia Award.
