The veteran Spanish midfielder Joaquín Sánchez announced this Wednesday through a video on the social networks of Real Betis Balompié, that he is leaving professional football after 23 seasons in the elite.

The winger, winner of three Copas del Rey, two with Betis, in 2005 and 2022 and another with Valencia, in 2008, will retire at the end of this season. Joaquín is currently the second player with the most appearances in the First Division, with 615, only seven behind Andoni Zubizarreta.

The one from El Puerto de Santa María is the Betis player with the most matches in its history with 521, in which he has scored 66 goals to thus occupy the seventh top scorer in history for the Verdiblanco club.

In his long career, Joaquín has been part of Betis, Valencia, Málaga, Fiorentina and again Betis, where he will end his career. In these 23 years he has worn the shirt of the Spanish team on 51 occasions, with four goals to his credit.
