Japan removes restrictions on South Korean imports

MADRID, 27 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Government of Japan has announced the removal of restrictions on South Korean imports after South Korea did the same in late April.

The decision comes four years after Japan removed South Korea from its 'White List' of countries with minimal trade restrictions after its withdrawal in 2019 amid rising tensions.

This decision puts an end to the conflict over export control that originated in a ruling issued in 2018 by the South Korean Supreme Court, the Yonhap news agency has published.

The ruling ruled that several South Korean workers should be compensated by Japan after being forced to work for a Japanese company during the occupation in World War II.

Finally, it was the South Korean authorities that made the decision to compensate the victims with money from a fund backed by the government itself.
