'It's my turn', the Equality app worth more than 200,000 euros so that household chores "do not fall back on the usual ones"

The acting Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, accompanied by the Secretary of State for Equality, Ángela Rodríguez 'Pam', presented this Thursday the Co-Responsible Plan campaign 'Where have you been?' and a new app to time chores so they "don't fall back on the same old stuff."

With the name 'MeToca' and under the slogan "Exhausted of always having to do household chores? Download the MeToca app, create your work team and... let's share!", Igualdad has shown the characteristics of this tool, which is now available for free for iOS and Android and whose development, at a cost of 211,750 euros, fell to the technology consulting firm Wairbut S.A., according to data collected by Europa Press from the Public Sector Contracting Platform.

In the same way, 'Pam' has indicated that it is a "very simple" app and similar to other expense sharing apps that are often used when traveling. Likewise, she has pointed out that it recognizes family and coexistence diversity, includes the care of minors, the elderly and dependent people and makes the mental burden visible. "It basically consists of registering with a coexistence unit. This is one of the first decisions we have made. We didn't just want to talk about family," she said.

Thus, users will be able to see on their mobile screens through graphs what type of tasks each one does, the level of effort made and the time invested. However, minors cannot participate in this app.

"We believe that this can help open a debate, which of course is in society and in homes, which is who has the most free time in Spain today and what the statistics tell us is that those who have more free time today in Spain it is still men, in an overwhelming majority," said 'Pam', adding that Equality "has to start at home."

Furthermore, she has reported that women, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE), currently dedicate twelve and a half more hours a week to housework than men. "The worrying thing about this data is that it talks about when women have 40-hour work days, but when we talk about partiality, and you know that 76% of partial contracts are held by women in this country, this gap is increasing over time. point that women have 30 hours more than men," he stated.

However, he has pointed out that there are more and more men who think it is good to take care of themselves, take paternity leave and share the tasks at home "equally". "This helps to have more time personally and in reconciling family life and, therefore, a life in which the right to time is more guaranteed and, therefore, a happier life," he said.

Montero, for his part, has assured that the message of the Co-Responsible Plan and that of the campaign "has to do with the need to distribute care in order to have time and, therefore, to be able to live." Likewise, alluding to the return to school, he has asked to "strengthen public policies that guarantee the right to conciliation and that guarantee the right to care."

"Feminism, when it enters our homes, makes our homes better spaces for everyone," she concluded.

THIS IS HOW 'METOCA' WORKS

After downloading the 'MeToca' application, it invites users to create a team, but to do so, the data of each person must be registered, with name, age and gender, which distinguishes between male, female and nonbinary.

The next step to follow to complete the information and be able to share the different tasks is to write them down, where the following concepts appear: "Accompaniment and teaching", "arrangement of clothes", "attendance at meetings", "emotional attention", " change of clothes at home", "change of season", "buying food", "pet care", "care of adults", "care and surveillance", "home equipment", "washing dishes", "management of the home", "shopping", "doing the laundry", "gardening"; "cleaning", "vehicle maintenance", "miscellaneous maintenance", "pet walking", "ironing", "activity planning", "family planning", "meal planning", "shopping planning", "putting on/taking off the table", "preparing meals", "picking up and putting away", "home repairs" and "administrative tasks".

Regarding the tasks, these are differentiated by color. For example, all those that are associated with clothing, such as ironing or doing laundry, are pink, while those that have to do with home repairs or equipment are red. In yellow, those that are related to accompaniment or care, in blue with pets, in green with meals, in purple with shopping and, finally, in orange with planning activities.

Likewise, after adding the activities carried out, you must select the level of effort, the time spent, the date and observations. Finally, the tool allows you to observe and set future objectives.
