Israel strikes Gaza targets in response to shell fire after Jader Adnan's death

Anti-aircraft alarms activated in several Israeli towns after a new rocket launch

MADRID, 2 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Tanks of the Israeli Army have fired shots on Tuesday against points in the Gaza Strip in response to rockets fired early in the day from the enclave after the death of Jader Adnan,

The Army has confirmed the shots and has asked residents in towns near the border to "remain in protected areas." After that, the anti-aircraft alarms have sounded in several areas due to the new firing of rockets.

The sirens have sounded in the city of Sderot (south) and in the nearby towns of Ibim, Nir Am, Erez, Sufa, Nir Itzhak and Sdeh Avraham, where residents cited by 'The Times of Israel' point to the sound of explosions allegedly caused by the interception of projectiles.

Following Adnan's death, Islamic Jihad has stated that "the assassination will not go unanswered and the resistance will continue with all its strength and determination," while the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) -- which controls the enclave -- has stressed that "the occupation and its fascist government will pay the price for this crime."

Adnan, 45, was arrested on February 5 in his town of residence, Arrabé, at which time he announced the start of a hunger strike, as he had done on previous occasions during his stays in prison. Thus, he refused to undergo medical examinations and treatments, according to Palestinian media reports.
