Israel attacks Gaza after intercepting five projectiles launched from the Strip

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have attacked this Wednesday several positions of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the Gaza Strip after they announced the "successful interception" of five rockets launched from the enclave towards southern Israel, in the framework of an increase in tensions due to an operation by the Israeli Army in the West Bank city of Jenin.

"Fighter jets have recently attacked an underground weapons production site used by the Hamas terrorist organization's chemical department and a site for the production of raw materials for the organization's rockets," an IDF statement read.

The Israeli authorities have remarked that "this attack constitutes damage to the ability of the organization" of Hamas to "strengthen and arm itself", assuring that the movement "has responsibility for what happens in Gaza: "(Hamas) will pay for the security violations against the State of Israel," they assert.

Hours earlier, the Israeli Army had reported that it had "detected five launches from the Gaza Strip into the territory of the State of Israel", indicating that "air defense systems have successfully intercepted all launches".

In a previous publication, the IDF had announced the activation of an alert in the city of Sderot and around Gaza. No casualties or property damage have been reported.

The launch occurred a few hours after the Israeli Army announced the withdrawal from the West Bank city of Jenin, where it was executing a military operation to "eradicate terrorism" from Palestinian militias.

This operation has resulted in at least twelve Palestinian deaths and a hundred wounded, in addition to the death of an Israeli soldier. From the Palestinian side, the Prime Minister, Mohamad Shtayé, remarked that "those who have the right to defend themselves are the Palestinians." "The Israeli Army is an occupying Army, which has stormed a refugee camp, arrested and killed innocent people, and Palestinian land is occupied land," he said.
