Iran asks the UN Security Council to condemn the attack near Soleimani's grave

MADRID, 4 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Iran's representative to the UN, Amir Saed Iravani, has sent a letter to both the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, and the UN Security Council asking for an "immediate and unequivocal" condemnation of the double attack perpetrated near the cemetery in the province of Kerman (southern) where General Qasem Soleimani is buried, and which has left 95 dead and more than 210 injured.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran condemns these heinous acts of terrorism and will spare no effort to achieve justice for the victims of this incident, (...) and calls on the Secretary-General and the UN Security Council to immediately and this terrible terrorist attack is unequivocal," Iravani said, according to Iran's Mehr news agency.

In addition, he has shown Iran's "firmness" in its "unwavering commitment to leading the fight against terrorism" due to its role as "one of the main victims" of it.

Guterres, for his part, has already expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the people and the Government of Iran, and has expressed his wish for a speedy recovery to the injured, according to a statement published by his deputy spokesperson, Florencia. Soto Niño.

At least 95 people have died and more than 210 others have been injured after an attack carried out this Wednesday near the cemetery in the province of Kerman, where Qasem Soleimani, head of the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guard, is buried, killed in a American bombing four years ago today.
