Hugo Guillamón: "Where I have to add, I will add"

The player of the Spanish team Hugo Guillamón assured that he will "add" and help the 'Red' wherever it is needed in this World Cup in Qatar 2022, which he faces with great enthusiasm and the conviction of enjoying the experience, without wanting to see Spain within the group of favorites because he believes that being superior to the rest is a "mistake".

"In the national team I have almost always played as a center back, the coach tells me that he trusts me and that he knows that I can play in both positions (central and pivot). Guillamón, three times absolute international and debutant in a major event, assured that the coach, Luis Enrique Martínez, transmits confidence "always from day one" to him and asks him to do the same as he does at Valencia CF.

"He has a 'staff' who analyzes us a lot and tells us what to improve, he has always given me confidence in what I do and in what he believes I can contribute to the team," he added.

In addition, he revealed that the Asturian coach called him shortly after giving the call. "Luis Enrique called me when the list came out, he congratulated me. He also has experience in World Cups and told me that it was a unique experience that he was going to enjoy very much. I appreciate everything he told me," he was honest.

"Playing in a World Cup is always special and even more so if it is the first. Since the list came out, these are days of great enthusiasm and the desire to train with the group and be with them. It is an experience that must be taken advantage of", acknowledged the player born in San Sebastián.

As for the mixture of veteran and youth of the group, he believes that it is the ideal situation. "We youngsters can bring that vitality and ambition, that desire to take on the world. The group is very balanced between veterans and youngsters. Their experience is a luxury for us and I think it will help us a lot," he said.

On his number 15, he acknowledged that there was little to choose from but that he likes it. And, in part, because it is a number worn by the now absent Sergio Ramos. "It is a number that I like, that I already wore in my first year at Valencia. Of course, Sergio is a benchmark and a legend for all the players, I have grown up watching him play and always paying attention to him and trying to do what he did.
