Hamas claims responsibility for attack in Jerusalem with at least three dead

The group says this "martyrdom operation" is "a natural response to the unprecedented crimes of the occupation"

MADRID, 30 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) this Thursday assumed responsibility for the attack carried out early in the day by two Palestinians who opened fire on a group of Israelis at a bus stop at one of the entrances to the city of Jerusalem, which has resulted in at least three deaths, according to the balance provided by the Israeli authorities.

The group has indicated that the two attackers are Murad Muhamad Nimr and Ibrahim Muhamad Nimr, who carried out "a martyrdom operation" that resulted in the death of three "settlers." Thus, he highlighted in a statement published on Telegram that "it is a natural response to the unprecedented crimes of the occupation, including the brutal massacre in the Gaza Strip and the murder of children in Jenin."

Hamas has thus referred to the death of two children at the hands of the Israeli Army during a large-scale operation carried out on Wednesday in the West Bank city of Jenin and its refugee camp. Israel claimed afterward that two terrorists, including a senior Islamic Jihad official, had been shot dead as part of the raid.

Finally, he warned Israel that "the heroes of the people" are "prepared to avenge the blood of the martyrs and repel aggression" in "all cities, villages, streets and alleys." They will not relent "until the occupation is razed and eradicated." "The free Palestinian people do not accept oppression and will not remain silent in the face of the Zionist war of extermination in all parts of the homeland," he concluded.

The Israeli Police have indicated that the attack in Jerusalem was carried out at the Givat Shaul intersection, where "two armed terrorists arrived at the scene in a vehicle and opened fire on a group of civilians at a bus stop." Afterwards, the Shin Bet has pointed out that the attackers are members of Hamas who were imprisoned for their role in terrorist activities.

This event is part of the recent increase in tensions in a spike in violence so far this year, which has worsened after the attacks carried out on October 7 by Hamas in Israeli territory, which left around 1,200 dead and about 240 kidnapped. The Gaza authorities, controlled by the Palestinian Islamist group, have reported 15,000 deaths due to the Israeli offensive against the Strip.
