Germany indicts an alleged Moroccan spy who followed the opposition diaspora in the country

MADRID, 23 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The German Federal Prosecutor's Office has announced this Friday the indictment of an individual for allegedly acting as a spy at the service of Morocco and informing Rabat of the movements of the Moroccan opposition diaspora.

The individual, of Moroccan descent and identified as Mohamed A., is specifically suspected of acting for the Intelligence service of the Alaouite kingdom, which contacted him in March 2020 to provide information on opponents of the regenerationist Hirak movement, which appeared in October of 2016 and a continuation of the previous protests against the monarchy.

In exchange, Moroccan intelligence paid him travel costs worth 5,000 euros, including "private transfers."

The Police arrested the defendant on November 14, in the city of Cologne, and has been in custody since then, waiting for a federal court in Dusseldorf to rule on these charges.
