Canadian film director Norman Jewison has died at the age of 97 at his residence in Los Angeles, according to 'The Hollywood Reporter'.

The death of the author of 'Moon Spell', 'In the Heat of the Night', 'Jesus Christ Superstar' or the musical 'Fiddler on the Roof' would have occurred last Saturday at his residence, although this has been made public. Monday by his publicist Jeff Sanderson.

His films won multiple Academy Awards for which Jewison received a lifetime achievement Oscar in 1999. Additionally, 'In the Heat of the Night', starring Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger, won the Oscar for best film in 1967.

In addition, one of his most iconic films, 'Moon Spell', became one of Hollywood's most popular romantic comedies. Likewise, 'The Cincinnati Kid', 'The Thomas Crown Affair' and 'Agnes of God' were other of his important films.
