Feminists regret that Spain allows the registration of surrogate babies when it is illegal in the country

MADRID, 29 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Feminist associations regret that, despite the fact that surrogacy is illegal in Spain, the registration in the Civil Registry of babies born through this practice in third countries that do regulate it is allowed.

From the Feminist Movement of Madrid they have indicated that Spanish law "considers this practice violence against women and contracts for the purchase of babies, illegal" and they regret that, even so, these children can be "imported after payment" for an instruction of the Ministry of Justice, which allows it when there is a judicial sentence of filiation issued by the country of origin.

This entity has recalled that in the manifesto read on International Women's Day they claimed to "cancel" said instruction, approved in 2010, and that, in their opinion, what it allows is that "the wealthy" can "get around the law". In addition, they accuse the media of "being complicit" in "sugar-wrapping" this "violence against women."

The Alliance against the Erasure of Women has also been critical of the Government and of the fact that, while criticizing surrogacy by its representatives, "the instruction that allows the registration of these children in the Civil Registry remains in force An Instruction that, in his opinion, "encourages the trafficking of babies and the renting of women by allowing the purchase of babies that has been perpetrated in other countries to be legalized in Spain."

"If the Sánchez government does not repeal that instruction, we can only classify these complaints as hypocrisy," they have told Europa Press from the entity.

The Alliance has warned that "surrogacy is exploitation and expropriation of the reproductive capacities of women" and "violates all international conventions" including the "Rights of the Child" or the "elimination of all forms of discrimination against women.

They have also explained that, in Spain, the Supreme Court has ruled on this issue to point out "that it violates the fundamental rights of pregnant women and children and that it is incompatible with human dignity."

In his opinion, "all ethical barriers are broken when babies are treated as objects of a commercial transaction and women as incubators to satisfy the wishes of third parties."
