Feijóo renews 75% of the number 1 to Congress, with Gamarra for La Rioja and the Cs exporter for Barcelona

In the PP headliners, with 44% women, Gamarra repeats for La Rioja and the mystery of Feijóo's two in Madrid remains

The PP Electoral Committee has approved this Monday the list of candidates who will lead the candidacies for Congress in the general elections on July 23, with more than 75% renewal compared to the 2019 elections and 44.2 percent. hundred women. Apart from including almost the entire current management committee Alberto Núñez Feijóo in the Lower House, one of the main novelties is the signing of the former Ciudadanos spokesperson in the Catalan Parliament, Nacho Martín Blanco.

In addition, the PP has once again placed the party's general secretary and spokesperson for the Popular Group, Cuca Gamarra, as the headliner for La Rioja, so the question remains as to who will be Feijóo's 'number two' in the Madrid list. On this specific position, the spokesman for the campaign committee, Borja Sémper, has indicated that "nothing has been decided."

For now, the leadership of the PP has revealed that the former spokesperson for the Popular Group Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo (she was number one for Barcelona in 2019) and the former spokesperson for the PP in the Basque Parliament Borja Sémper will accompany him in that candidacy for Madrid.

Apart from Gamarra, there are more members of the PP management committee who will head the lists, such as the general coordinator, Elías Bendodo, who will lead the one in Malaga. Four years ago, the journalist Pablo Montesinos did it, who left politics after the departure of Pablo Casado as leader of the PP in April 2022.

In addition, the Institutional Vice-Secretary, Esteban González Pons, will lead Valencia's candidacy, which will force him to leave his position as MEP in Brussels. For his part, the person in charge of Organization of the PP, Miguel Tellado, one of the faithful of Feijóo, will lead the list of A Coruña, passing in the new legislature from Congress to the Senate.

Other positions in the Executive will also change Chambers (apart from Bendodo), such as the Deputy Secretary of the Economy, Juan Bravo, who will be the headliner for Seville, a position led four years ago by Teresa Jiménez Becerril, currently attached to the Ombudsman Town.

For her part, the deputy secretary of Social Policies of the PP, Carmen Fúñez, heads the list of Ciudad Real, replacing the former mayor of the city Rosa Romero, while the deputy secretary of Studies and Programs of the PP, Carmen Navarro, repeats for Albacete .

From the current steering committee of the PP there are several people who it is unknown if they will be located in other positions on the lists for Congress or will continue in the Senate or in Brussels before the elections on July 23: Pedro Rollán (deputy secretary of Territorial), Javier Maroto (spokesperson in the Upper House), José Antonio Monago (president of the Committee of Rights and Guarantees of the PP) or Dolores Montserrat (spokesperson for the PP in Brussels).

ALL NEW IN THE VALENCIAN COMMUNITY, EXTREMADURA AND THE CANARY ISLANDS

With these list heads, 39 of the 52 list heads are renewed, that is, 75%. There are communities where all the 'number one' are new compared to 2019, such as the Valencian Community, with González Pons in Valencia, the former president of the Generalitat Alberto Fabra in Castellón and the parliamentarian Macarena Montesinos for Alicante.

In the case of Extremadura, its two headliners are also renewed. Thus, the spokesperson for the Popular Parliamentary Group in the Assembly of Extremadura during the last legislature, Cristina Teniente, and the councilor in the Badajoz City Council Antonio Cavacasillas will head the lists of the PP to Congress for Cáceres and Badajoz, respectively. They replace Alberto Casero and Víctor Piriz in those positions.

In the same way, in the Canary Islands the 'number one' for Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz are new after appointing Jimena Delgado and Juan Antonio Rojas.

GREAT RENOVATION IN ANDALUSIA, EXTREMADURA AND GALICIA

Likewise, there are autonomies with a great renewal, such as Andalusia, where all the headliners are new except for Carlos Rojas from Granada, who repeats for his constituency. Of the four provinces of Galicia, only Ana Vázquez repeats for Orense.

In Coruña Tellado debuts, in Lugo the vice president and Minister of Economy of the Xunta, Francisco Conde, heads the list, and in Pontevedra the former minister Ana Pastor, who four years ago was Pablo Casado's 'number two' on the list of Madrid.

In Aragon, there are new faces to Congress in Huesca and Zaragoza, with Ana Alós and Pedro Navarro, although Alberto Herrero from Teruel repeats. And in the Basque Country, of the three provinces, only Bea Fanjul repeats for Vizcaya, which was the only one that four years ago won a seat for the PP in this region.

In Castilla-La Mancha, of the five provinces, only Carmen Navarro in Albacete and Beatriz Jiménez in Cuenca repeat, while in Castilla y León of the nine circumscriptions, only three are the same headliners as in 2019 (Milagros Marcos, José Antonio Bermúdez de Castro and Tomás Cabezón in Palencia, Salamanca and Soria, respectively).

SIGNING IN BARCELONA OF THE EXPORTAVOZ OF CITIZENS

In the case of Catalonia, the main novelty is the signing as 'number one' by Barcelona of Nacho Martín, former spokesperson for Ciudadanos in the Catalan Parliament in the last legislature, who abandoned the orange party minutes a week ago.

Upon leaving Cs, Martín - who was also a member of the Citizens' Executive - admitted that his opinion "on the viability of the party is pessimistic." "I'm leaving Cs because I have lost hope in the party's capacity and viability," he said then.

In addition, in Catalonia the 'number one' of the PP for Girona and Tarragona are new: Concepción Veray of the PP and Pere Lluis Huget. In the case of Lleida, Dante Pérez repeats.

SERGIO SAYAS HEADS THE LIST OF NAVARRE

Except for the case of Cuca Gamarra in La Rioja, in single-province regions there are changes in the headliners. This is how the candidates from Asturias (Esther Llamazares), the Balearic Islands (José Vicente Marí, after his predecessor won the regional elections on the islands) and Murcia (Luis Alberto Marín now leads against Teodoro García Egea, who did it four years ago) are new years).

In the case of Cantabria, the current PP senator for that autonomy, Félix de las Cuevas, will head the list to Congress. In 2019 he was number three in the PP's candidacy for the Senate, led by Javier Puente.

In Navarra, after UPN and PP failed to close an agreement and are going to compete separately, the Popular Party has decided that Sergio Sayas is number one on the PP list for the Foral Community. In the last generals, Sayas was elected deputy for the Navarra Suma coalition (UPN, PP and Cs), but appointed on that occasion by UPN.

However, in February 2022 the decision of Sayas and his colleague Carlos García Adanero, also from UPN, to vote against the labor reform, in contravention of the party's directive, led to the opening of a file and the suspension of militancy. . Finally, both decided to leave UPN and before the regional and municipal elections they reached an agreement with the Popular Party.

DIEGO CALVO PLACES THE ACCENT ON THE EXPERIENCE

The president of the Electoral Committee, Diego Calvo, explained that the criteria has been to include people who have a "long political and legislative career, as well as proven experience in public and private management, with profiles that, in addition to having this background, have formed part of the party structures and have done a magnificent job during this legislature.

For his part, Sémper has stressed that the challenge of the PP is to "win change in Spain" and anyone who shares this objective is "welcome" to the project.
