The Spanish company providing connectivity services and solutions for rural areas Eurona has obtained a license to operate in Senegal through its subsidiary Nortis Telecom, with which the company reinforces its position in Africa, a continent from which 30% of its turnover comes. , the firm highlighted in a statement.

"The entry into Senegal is a very important step in our strategy of becoming a reference operator and growing in Africa, one of the company's objectives for 2023. It is also the demonstration of our commitment to the progress and development of a continent where the limitations it suffers in its access to the internet are hindering its economic growth," highlighted the CEO of Eurona, Fernando Ojeda.

In this sense, the company has highlighted that its objective is to extend its presence to other countries on the African continent and has assured that it "maintains advanced conversations" to do so.

The company has designed an action plan in Senegal that will focus on the "economic and social development" of the country, which has about 18 million inhabitants and "where the digital divide is very wide and still affects 46% of the population" .

To this end, it plans to bring the satellite connection to public sector companies, the Government and its ministries, and also to the main private sector companies, linked to the processing of agricultural and fishing products, mining, oil refining and phosphates. , Eurona detailed.

In the social section, the company's objective is to connect Senegal's educational system and health centers with broadband internet.

With the beginning of its operations in Senegal, Eurona will be present in three African countries since it also has a presence through its subsidiaries in Morocco and Ivory Coast.

In Morocco it offers global satellite communication solutions for around 5,000 schools, health centers, homes, service stations, security departments and public administrations, with special attention to rural areas or areas with a deficit of communication infrastructure, while in Ivory Coast offers connection to different government agencies and private companies.
