MADRID, 4 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The leader of the IU and general secretary of the PCE, Enrique Santiago, has assured that "unity" of the left by itself is useless and that it is necessary to build proposals in a "respectful", "friendly" way and without using the media. communication during negotiation processes.

This has been expressed during an interview on TVE, collected by Europa Press, in which he has argued that in the municipal elections the electorate "has penalized" the left in those places where "there has been more noise" when it comes to reaching agreements and where "the general interest" has not come first.

"The unit like this by itself is not useful either. We need to build a unit that is friendly, with collective operating methods, a unit that can make people identify with the messages," Santiago argued, highlighting the importance of citizens they see that all the political forces work in the same line and not that "each one works in a different way".

Thus, he has stressed that within Sumar, the political project of Vice President Yolanda Díaz -which is immersed in negotiations with different formations, such as Podemos, Más País or Compromís, to forge the unity of the left- all parties must be equals around the leadership of the vice president.

Santiago has given as an example the result of the left formations in the autonomous elections in Navarra and Asturias, where, according to his analysis, the political space to which Sumar aspires to unite has not only not regressed, but has even "advanced" thanks to that general interests would have intervened against "particular interests of each of the political forces."

After thanking the work carried out by the federal coordinator of the IU, Alberto Garzón, after announcing last Friday that he will retire from the front line of politics, Santiago has defended that the presence of some or other people on the lists agreed by the space on the left "shouldn't be a problem".

"I think that everyone here knows that the important thing is the general agreement and that individualities can never be problems," said the leader of the PCE, calling for "protecting a lot" the "great leadership" of Yolanda Díaz .

The leader of the PCE has sent a message of calm to the people who hope that the different formations of the left will reach a unity agreement, detailing that there is a dynamic of "very broad agreement".

He has also confirmed that all the political forces that are part of that will for the project are talking and building at this moment, while he has been optimistic that the negotiations will result in "a project where the citizens identify".

"Perhaps there may always be some political force that is more or less difficult to incorporate, I hope that does not happen, but I frankly believe that we have already achieved the essential and society is going to reward it, which is a broad will to agree to go out and win in those general elections to combat abstention," added Santiago, alluding to Podemos.
