Doctors and pediatricians give the green light to the agreement with the Ministry and will call off the strike when it is signed

Primary Care doctors and pediatricians have given the green light this Wednesday to the principle of the agreement reached by the Ministry of Health and the strike committee and, once signed, they will call off the strikes that have lasted for almost four months.

The Amyts medical union, convener of the indefinite strike that started on November 21, has submitted the verbal agreement reached for consultation with the professionals before deciding whether to sign the principle of agreement that allows the end of the strike.

In a telematic consultation held on the night of this Wednesday that has lasted for more than two hours, the doctors and pediatricians have given their approval to the agreement, a decision that they have already transferred to the Ministry of Health.

After this support from those affected, the strike committee will sit down again with the Ministry of Health this Thursday, presumably in the early afternoon, to close the final agreement and seal the commitments made after 14 meetings between both parties.

With the signing of the same, the strike will be called off after 122 days of strikes for a total of 4,240 family doctors and 720 primary care pediatricians in the region. In any case, a commission will be established to monitor the agreements reached to guarantee their implementation.

The agreement puts an end to 17 and a half weeks of indefinite strike during which the strike committee has carried out a multitude of protest actions, with more than a dozen demonstrations in the center of Madrid on Wednesdays, a confinement for 36 hours in the General Directorate of Human Resources of Sermas, or symbolic medical confinements in neighborhood associations.

In this way, an end will be put to a conflict that has been dragging on since November 21 and that has led to placing Public Health as one of the main problems of the Government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso. The person in charge of the portfolio, Enrique Ruiz Escudero, who has already confirmed that he will not repeat as head of the Ministry in the next legislature, will thus close one of the fronts that was causing the biggest headaches in the Madrid Executive.

The strike of almost 5,000 Primary Care professionals, which has been followed by protests in Primary Care, Hospitals and in all professional sectors of this first level of care, and street demonstrations in defense of Public Health, has generated one of the points of maximum confrontation between the Government of Ayuso and the toilets, with accusations of a political strike by the regional Executive and recriminations of following the leftist parties to get Ayuso out of Puerta del Sol.
