Denmark makes history with its third consecutive Handball World Cup

Lauge Schmidt y Pytlick dynamitan a Francia en la final

MADRID, 29 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Danish men's handball team was proclaimed world champion this Sunday after beating France (29-34) in the 2023 World Cup final held at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm, thus achieving a historic third consecutive title.

Denmark, the executioner of Spain in the semifinals, once again retained the world crown thanks to 10 goals from Rasmus Lauge Schmidt and another nine from Simon Pytlick. A mark of 28 consecutive games without losing in World Cups, taking the Olympic champion ahead from the beginning.

France trailed behind its rival from a 1-4 lead in the opening minutes. The goal this time did not work for the Frenchmen, Gerard's low level, although the Danish Landin did not have a last recital either. Remili, Mem, Richardson and Fabregas carried the offensive weight of a France that came within a goal 15 minutes from time.

The Frenchmen, who lost only their second final of eight contested, saw their chances recede with a decisive streak from Lauge Schmidt. Denmark wins the World Cup for the third time in its history, a recent but historic record for continuity.
