The second vice president and Minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, assured this Wednesday that the Government "is going to greatly increase" the minimum interprofessional wage (SMI) "next Friday."
The words of the vice president, spoken in an interview with La Sexta collected by Europa Press, mean that the Executive will finally make its decision on the increase in the 2024 SMI within the framework of the next meeting with CCOO, UGT, CEOE and Cepyme, called for next Friday at 8:30 a.m., according to negotiation sources.
The SMI is currently 1,080 euros per month for fourteen payments. Labor once proposed an increase of 4%, to 1,123 euros per month, with the idea that this percentage would attract the CEOE to an agreement with unions and the Government.
However, the employers' rejection of this percentage because it is not accompanied by their demands (indexation of the SMI to public contracts and farm bonuses), could lead to this figure increasing to 5% or beyond, as requested by the unions.
The Ministry of Labor already said last Monday that if CEOE did not accept the 4%, it would disassociate itself from this proposal to go for a "more ambitious" increase in the SMI.
