Darias, the Minister of Health with which Spain was immunized against the coronavirus and took off her mask

The until now Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, leaves office to José Manuel Miñones Conde after achieving, thanks to joint work with the Autonomous Communities, that the majority of the Spanish population has been immunized against the coronavirus, since they agreed to the charge only a few months after the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 began in Spain.

The Canary Islands arrived at the Ministry of Health, on January 26, 2021, replacing Salvador Illa, who left office to lead the PSC candidacy in the Catalan elections on February 14 of that same year, and in the middle of the third wave of infections.

During this time, and as Darias has presumed on many occasions, at least the first dose of the coronavirus has been administered to the majority of the Spanish population, thus substantially reducing coronavirus infections, hospitalizations and deaths. .

In fact, the improvement in the situation has been such that the Government, at the proposal of the Minister of Health and "as recommended by the experts", decided to eliminate the mandatory use of masks indoors in April 2022 , and, since February 8, in the means of transport.

However, Darias leaves the Ministry and continues to be forced to wear masks in health establishments and services and for workers and visitors to social health centers. A measure that, for now, is not seen to come to an end.

But, beyond the coronavirus, during his tenure at the head of the Ministry of Health, other measures have been approved within the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System (CISNS), such as, for example, the Mental Health Care Plan 2022 -2024, an item of 172 million euros for Primary Care, the Oral Health Plan of the National Health System or the law creating the Public Health Agency.

At the same time, another of the initiatives that Darias has highlighted during these years is the increase in Specialized Health Training (FSE) places which, as he has insisted, have increased by 5 percent in 2023 compared to last year (545 more places) and 39 percent more than five years ago.

However, Darias leaves office at a time when demonstrations and strikes are taking place in different parts of Spain by health professionals, both in Primary Care and in hospitals due to the conditions in which they work and in which they treat to the patients.
