Covite reprimands Cultura for promoting a book about Azkarraga, spokesperson for a group supporting ETA prisoners

MADRID, 10 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Collective of Victims of Terrorism, Covite, has reprimanded the Ministry of Culture for having promoted the presentation of the biography of Joseba Azkarraga, spokesperson for the Sare collective for the defense of the human rights of prisoners of the terrorist group ETA, alleging that it is " regrettable and unworthy" to give publicity "with public money" to those who speak of "political prisoners".

"From a public ministry, and with public money, the presentation of the biography of a person whose conception of human rights consists of classifying the ETA murderers as 'political prisoners' and whose objective is to achieve their release is promoted," he expressed. The Ministry of Culture broadcast on social networks and broadcast live on its YouTube channel the presentation of the book 'Joseba Azkarraga, freedom and human rights as an objective', written by María del Olmo Ibález. The conference took place on April 8 at the Documentary Center of Historical Memory (CDMH).

Joseba Azkarraga is spokesperson for the Sare organization, and was Minister of Justice of the Basque Government between 2001 and 2008, in the governments of the former Lehendakari Juan José Ibarretxe. Sare defines itself as a "citizen network" that works for the human rights of all Basque prisoners, fugitives and deportees.
