Correos says that 93.8% of the 2.6 million vote applicants have voted, a record number

Some 161,000 voters are missing to cast their vote by mail and they had until 2:00 p.m. to do so

Correos has released a statement in which it explains that 93.8 percent of the 2,622,808 applications for voting by mail have already deposited their ballot. In other words, a total of 2,461,284 voters have done so until 12 midnight this Thursday. In this sense, it specifies that, pending the definitive data, these numbers of votes by mail already represent the highest registered in the history of democracy.

Specifically, Correos points out, it represents 98% more than in the elections of April 28, 2019 and 81% more than in those held in 2016.

As reported by the state society, until 12:00 a.m. this Thursday, more than 2.4 million applicants for voting by mail had deposited their vote and this Friday began with a total of 161,524 voters who were yet to enter their ballot when the deadline ended at 2:00 p.m.

The Central Electoral Board (JEC) responded yesterday to the Post Office's request to extend the deadline to deposit the vote by mail, so that the 161,524 voters who remained today to enter their ballot have until this Friday at 2:00 p.m. to go to a Post Office and vote.

As Correos defends while waiting for the definitive data, this ratio of votes by mail already represents the highest number of votes by mail registered in the history of democracy. Specifically, it represents 98% more in the elections of April 28, 2019 and 81% more than in 2016.

By autonomous communities, Madrid is the region where the most votes by mail have been produced, always awaiting the final data, with a total of 590,048 votes cast up to yesterday. It is followed by Andalusia, with 345,859, and Catalonia, with a total of 249,518 votes by correspondence.

Behind are the Basque Country (204,148); Castilla y León (170,670); Valencian Community (169,700); Galicia (138,601); Castilla-La Mancha (102,529); Aragon (88,433); Canary Islands (79,124); Extremadura (58,895); Asturias (53,646); Murcia (48,866); Navarra (44,479); Balearic Islands (34,161); Cantabria (22,199); La Rioja (19,839); Ceuta (5,226) and Melilla (5,073).
