Clavijo (CC) bets on the PNV to preside over the Congress of Deputies

LAS PALMAS DE GRAN CANARIA, Aug. 13 (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of the Canary Islands Coalition (CC), Fernando Clavijo, has opted for the Basque Nationalist Party (PNV) to preside over the Congress of Deputies that will be constituted next week.

This has been indicated by the also president of the Canary Islands in an interview with La Vanguardia collected by Europa Press in which he insisted that he would "love" that for the first time a nationalist could preside over Congress. "And there our clear commitment is the PNV," he asserted.

"It would be a gesture and evidence of this change that is taking place and of a plural representation that the ballot boxes have produced," he observed.

Clavijo added that it would also be a "good symptom" of understanding so that autonomous communities such as the Canary Islands can be understood. "For this reason," he continued, "we would be delighted if there could be a nationalist in the Presidency or Vice Presidency of Congress, and our commitment is clear that it is for the PNV."

The Canarian recalled that there has been a "close relationship" between Canarian and Basque nationalists for many years. "And of course, the PNV is a benchmark for CC as a nationalist organization," he explained.

Finally, he pointed out that despite the fact that the Basque Country is continental territory and the Canary Islands are islands, both have approximately the same population and that they share strategies and positioning.
