Civil guards denounce that Marlaska "fattens the Mossos staff" while the Benemérita "is going to disappear"

MADRID, 2 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Spanish Association of Civil Guards (AEGC) has denounced that the Ministry of the Interior of Fernando Grande-Marlaska "fattens the staff" of the Mossos d'Esquadra, which will have a 6.1% more budget by 2024, while in the rest of Spain the Civil Guard "is going to disappear."

It is the reaction of the association to the announcement that the Minister of the Interior of the Generalitat, Joan Ignasi Elena, made on Friday to inform that the budget of his department would rise this year to 1,924 million euros, which will allow the workforce to be increased by 3,500 police officers.

"We consider that the Ministry of the Interior reinforces the regional police forces with its budgets while abandoning the Civil Guard and, therefore, abandoning the vast majority of Spaniards," the association protests in a statement published this Saturday.

Next, the civil guards criticize that they are the ones who carry the burden of security in Spain "with 90% of the territory" under their demarcation. In this scenario, AEGC considers that both Interior and Defense "are condemning the Civil Guard to its disappearance", because despite their claims the ministries of Fernando Grande-Marlaska and Margarita Robles "continue to ignore the personnel needs of the Benemérita ".

Specifically, they point out that the force has a deficit of 10,000 troops as a result of the years in which public employment was paralyzed and coincided with the retirement process of large promotions.

For all these reasons, the association demands from the Government more resources and more personnel for the Civil Guard for its own safety and that of all citizens. "We all have the right to quality security regardless of whether we were born in Barcelona or in the Port of Santamaría," the statement emphasizes.
