Ghanaian midfielder Christian Atsu, a former Málaga, Chelsea and Newclastle footballer, has been found lifeless among the rubble caused by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale registered on February 6 in southern Turkey, near the border with Syria, his agent confirmed this Saturday on social networks.

"It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that the body of Christian Atsu was found this morning. I extend my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers and support. I ask that, as we make arrangements necessary, everyone respects the family's privacy during this difficult time," her representative, Nana Sechere, announced on her Twitter account.

Atsu, 31, who played for Hatayspor in the Turkish Super League, was buried by the rubble of one of hundreds of buildings collapsed after the earthquake in the city of Hatay, from where two other players had already been rescued alive. and two members of the team's coaching staff.

Chelsea, the club to which he belonged between 2013 and 2017 and from where he was loaned to Málaga in 2016, was devastated by the news. "It is with great sadness that Chelsea Football Club receives the news of the confirmation that Christian Atsu is one of the many victims of the terrible earthquake in Turkey and Syria. We send our deepest condolences to Christian's family and friends and to all those affected by the tragedy of the earthquake," he said in a statement.
