ChatGPT raises the sophistication of 'online' scams, warns 'neobank' N26

MADRID, 31 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The use of tools based on artificial intelligence such as ChatGPT by cybercriminals raises the level of sophistication of their scam attempts and increases the difficulty for users to detect them, as highlighted by the 'neobank' N26 in a statement.

"The most obvious risk is that with ChatGPT phishing emails are rendered squeaky-clean and professional, as the tool removes the telltale signs that something is wrong." , such as spelling or grammatical errors. This lowers the barriers for criminals, who no longer need to speak or write in the target's native language," said Kyle Ferdolage, Director of Trust and Safety at N26.

In this sense, 'phishing' attacks are a type of scam in which the cybercriminal contacts targets by email, phone or messaging posing as a legitimate institution to compromise a device and gain access to sensitive data.

Thus, the entity recommends that users pay attention to unsolicited messages and, before responding or clicking on a link, verify their authenticity through a known and secure entry point, such as an application or a site. specific web and with which the user is familiar.

Along those lines, it's also recommended to always verify the source, as AI-generated scams can often have convincing branding and logos. "It is key to carefully check the sender's email address, website domain name, and company contact information to ensure they are legitimate," N26 noted.

The entity also urges users to be careful with personal information and to never provide passwords or credit card data since a legitimate body, company or organization "would never ask for this type of information by email, SMS or phone call ".
