The Catalan filmmaker Ventura Pons died this Monday afternoon in Barcelona at the age of 78, as confirmed by knowledgeable sources to Europa Press.

Pons (Barcelona, ​​1945) began his professional career in the theater field, soon becoming one of the most prestigious directors on the Catalan scene for more than a decade, and in 1977 he made the leap to the big screen with 'Ocaña, retrat intermient', which was selected to compete at the Cannes Film Festival.

Among other films, he has directed films such as 'Actrius', 'Carícies', 'Friend/Beloved', 'Què t'hi jugues Mari Pili?', 'The reason for everything', 'Die (or not)' and 'Anita doesn't miss the train'.

He also directed the documentary fiction "Un berenar a Ginebra" about Mercè Rodoreda, the documentaries "El gran Gato", "Cola, Colita, Colassa" about the photographer Isabel Steva Hernández who died last week and "Ignasi M.", and " Miss Dalí', biography of the painter's sister.

In 1985 he created the production company Els Films de la Rambla, with which he has produced 19 of his feature films.

His career has been recognized with the National Film Award of the Generalitat, the Gold Medal of Fine Arts, the Creu de Sant Jordi and the Gaudí Award of Honor, among others.
