Carolina Marín wins her first title of the year in Orleans

The Spanish badminton player Carolina Marín has conquered the Orleans Masters (France), a Super 300 category tournament for the International Badminton Federation (BWF) circuit, after beating the American Beiwen Zhang (25-23, 9 -21, 21-10), and thus raises his first title of the year.

At the Palais des Sports in the French town, the North American achieved a small lead (1-4) at the start of the opening set that received an immediate response from the Huelva player, who came from behind to take a 7-point lead halfway through the set (15-8).

Despite Zhang's rush, winning nine of the 11 games after 16-10, Marín withstood the pressure and sealed his victory in the set (25-23). However, he did not know how to maintain the level in a complicated second set.

The American started intractable with an 8-0 run and only allowed the Spanish to win one of the first 15 games (14-1), a distance that was insurmountable and that allowed the American to equalize the contest (21-9).

Already in the third and final sleeve, Marín retained slight advantages before giving prominence to his rival. With 10-10 in the light, the three-time world champion and six-time European champion no longer allowed her opponent to win a single point and, with a 12-0 run, closed her victory (21-10).

In this way, Marín, the number 1 seed in the French competition and who had not won a title since the 2022 European Championship, lifted his first trophy of 2023 and his eighth BWF Tour title.
