Carolina Marín advances to the round of 16 at the Indian Open

MADRID, 17 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Spanish badminton player Carolina Marín has advanced to the round of 16 of the India Open, in the World Tour Super 750 category, after beating the Japanese Nozomi Okuhara (21-13, 21-18) in her debut on Tuesday.

The three-time world champion and six-time European champion, current number nine in the world, knew how to respond to the Asian player's initial rush (1-3) and equalized the contest in the tenth game to start a streak of five consecutive points (9-5).

Little by little, the woman from Huelva gained an income of 7 that allowed her to comfortably face the end of the set and start the second round strong (4-1), in which Okuhara recovered before the equator to take advantage (8- 12).

A 5-0 run put the Spanish back in the fight (14-16) and, although the Japanese managed to get ahead again (18-16), she went back to chain five consecutive wins to end the contest after 39 minutes.

Now she will face the Thai Ratchanok Intanon, world champion in 2013 and sixth seed, who eliminated the Malaysian Jin Wei Goh in her debut. Intanon has prevailed seven of the eleven times that she has met the Spanish.

In this way, Marín compensates for the defeat against the current world runner-up, the Chinese Yu Fei Chen (21-18, 21-19), in the quarterfinals of the Malaysian Open, all in a year in which he hopes to recover little by little his best form, after months of recovery after the serious knee injury that kept him out of the Tokyo Olympics.
