Carlos Sainz abandons in the first corner of Austin

The Spaniard started from pole and Russel took him ahead

MADRID, 23 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Spanish driver Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) saw his hopes of fighting for victory in the United States Grand Prix dashed at the first corner, due to a blow from George Russell's Mercedes, his sixth retirement, second in a row.

Sainz signed pole on Saturday with the checkered flag of Q3, ahead of Max Verstappen (Red Bull). At the start of this Sunday, the man from Madrid did not keep his position against the already world champion and in the first corner he was out of action.

Russel ran over the Spaniard's car, which spun and was forced to enter the garage. The man from Madrid, who had just abandoned Suzuka (Japan), reported a puncture on the radio but his car was unable to start the race again once in the pits.
